Three Low-Cost Ways to Update Your Living Space

We are all coming out of hibernation mode with more energy and ready to tackle those long home to-do lists. Many people have asked me about ideas for a home refresh. Here are my top three ways to update your living space while giving you the best bang for your buck!

PAINT

The first to consider for an economical home transformation is paint. It is amazing how much paint can transform a space. Walls, cabinets and furniture are all good options to paint to begin your home transformation. You may still love the storage a piece offers or it could serve some sentimental value, but maybe you're not really in love with the finish. Paint is such an easy way to give it some new life. I have seen houses get an updated paint color and go from not selling to sold just by that one simple visual change. If you aren't quite sure about selecting just the right color, I suggest trying out some samples before committing. You can always call your trusted designer or color specialist to help out if you don't know where to start. Most of us have a go to list of favorites.

LIGHTING

If you really want to make a statement, lighting is a fabulous way to do so. Lighting can make such a difference in the look and feel of a space. Even if you have a strict budget, you can find some really affordable options. You could also do a few fixtures at a time to ease the cost. I would advise to start with your main living area first. The living area is where you likely spend most of your time and is the most visible to guests.

ACCENT WALL

The final thing to give you a big impact on a budget is an accent wall. Accent walls help create a focal point in the room as well as add some interest. There are so many fun options for accent walls. Some of my personal favorites include paint, wallpaper, tile or wood accents (shiplap, slat walls, wainscoting). Accent walls can be ideal for powder rooms, entryways, offices, fireplaces and bar walls. Really, they can work anywhere!

It’s amazing how simple it can be to make you fall back in love with your current living space. Share your updated living spaces with us by tagging us on our social media! We love a good before and after photo.
